Betfair: what on earth has gone wrong?

I hit trouble at Betfair some months ago when they declined my paying them cash as a result of the DCMS/GC meddling. So I paid cash to AN Other in the belief that I could get on at 2% commission. In fact Betfair charged 6%. This is quite ridiculous since it is almost as much as the old betting tax rate of thirty years ago. Betfair think that they can get away with it but I very much doubt it.
